To help you learn phrasal verbs, I’ve put together a rather large playlist of songs that use phrasal verbs. Phew. That was a long sentence.

I’ve put the playlist on YouTube because that way I could do my best to find lyric videos wherever possible to help you understand and spot the phrasal verbs! Are you ready for over 800 songs of phrasal verb goodness? Of course you are. Here you go!

But what the heck is a phrasal verb anyway?

A phrasal verb describes when a verb plus one or more other words, such as an adverb or a preposition, combine to create a new meaning. They’re sometimes also called multi-word verbs or compound verbs.

verb + adverb or preposition or other word = phrasal verb

For example:

pick = to select or choose

on = ‘on top of’ (one meaning of many!)

pick + on = to bully

Whaaa?!

The meanings that these words create together can be so different sometimes to the meanings we’re used to when they’re on their own. This means that phrasal verbs can be a bit of a nightmare for English learners.

This is exactly why I want my first online course to solve this problem for people. I’ve spent so many lessons with many students in the past explaining, dissecting, and teaching phrasal verbs that I wanted to bring it to more people as it’s something that keeps coming up, even with very advanced students.
