My Story

I first encountered Vietnamese on our trip there for Language Stories in May 2018.

Although we met with various people to talk about the language for Language Stories, I never got further than the basics in the time we were there. But who knows what the future might hold!

Resources

LiveLingua – lots of free courses to help get you started with some structure. Some even have audio too!

Colloquial – the whole audio for Colloquial Vietnamese is available online for free (legally!) here. You can also buy the book to help make the most of the free audio.

Glossika – what’s great about the Glossika audio courses for Vietnamese is that you have two options – Northern or Southern. Check it out (and also get access to over 50 languages) here.

Duolingo – there’s a Duolingo course for Vietnamese, which is always a handy extra to have available.

Memrise – There’s a good range of Vietnamese courses available on Memrise to support your studies too.

Lingodeer – available only in a select number of languages, Lingodeer is available for Vietnamese. Yay!

Tuttle – Tuttle are a great publisher with lots of titles for learners of Asian and Middle Eastern languages, including a good range for Vietnamese. They also have some free downloadable audio for various Vietnamese titles.

VietnamesePod101 – a great, well-structured course to get you started and work with throughout your studies as you get better at the language.

italki – at some point, you’ll need to speak! italki has great options for both tutors and language exchange partners.
